Lanolin: It refers to the waterproof oily substance produced between the wool of woolly animals, namely sheep and goats, to repel water from their fur. It is especially preferred to be used as a softener and skin lubricant in care products and health sectors.

How to Claim?

There are conditions that must be met in order to claim on the packaging that your cosmetic product is vegan.

To make a vegan claim in cosmetic products, the following conditions must be met:

  • Test report stating that the formulation does not contain animal DNA.
  • Documentation that each raw material in the formulation is not of animal origin
  • Official declaration that each raw material in the formulation does not contain GMO
  • Declaration that each raw material in the formulation has not been tested on animals.

Manufacturers who meet these conditions can claim that the product is vegan on the packaging and in marketing actions; they can use a vegan logo or vegan sign they design, and the phrase “Vegan”.

Vegan Certification

Vegan certification in cosmetic products is a process that requires professional support, including laboratory analysis and documentation control. It is necessary to declare that the product has not been tested on animals and to scientifically prove that it does not contain animal content. At the same time, there must be no Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) and no raw materials of animal origin in the product content.

Vegan certification is prepared by accredited institutions and laboratories authorized to issue the document. Manufacturers who successfully complete the certification processes of these institutions can use the institution’s symbol on their relevant products.
