Reusable packaging is becoming an increasingly important part of beauty packaging, particularly for products that need accurate dosing and targeted application. A packaging solution provider based in France has developed a reusable polypropylene (PP) applicator system for single-dose scalp treatment vials. The system combines tubular glass vials with removable and reusable applicators, giving users a practical way to apply the formula directly to the scalp. The approach fits with the growing focus on circular packaging and the requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Reusable applicators for targeted application

The packaging system uses 12 tubular glass single-dose vials, with each vial fitted with a PP cap and accompanied by an ergonomic, removable, reusable, and unisex PP applicator. The routine is straightforward. The vial cap is removed, the applicator is fitted, and the formula is applied to the scalp, parting by parting.
The applicator is designed for a good grip and allows the user to massage the scalp while applying the product. This type of format can be used for premium hair care, treatments, and treatment courses, covering a wide range of uses and textures.

Precision matters in beauty packaging

Concentrated serums, creams, oils, cure products, and daily-use products all require precision in materials, dosage, application, and sealing performance. Different packaging formats can address these needs, including droppers, roll-on applicators with stainless-steel or glass balls, single-dose vials with removable and reusable applicators, refillable jars, and twist-cannula tubes.

These formats give beauty brands different ways to combine controlled application with packaging that can support circular economy principles.

Packaging designed around circular economy principles

The PPWR is encouraging packaging companies to invest and innovate around circular economy principles. Areas of focus include eco-design, sustainable sourcing, recycling optimization, and responsible manufacturing.
Reusable applicators are one part of this wider development. By separating the applicator from the single-dose product format, the packaging can provide a reusable component alongside the treatment itself.

Droppers and refillable formats

The same approach can be applied to other beauty packaging formats. Dropper systems can combine a glass pipette, PP cap, lined closure thermoplastic elastomer bulb, and transport PP cap with a 30 mL molded glass bottle.

Bottle and dropper systems can provide precise dosing and targeted application for products such as anti-wrinkle eye serums. A 15 mL format can include a PP roll-on pipette with a stainless steel ball, a nitrile bulb, a PP collar, and a protective cap.

Refillable formats are another part of the packaging mix. These can include refillable polyethylene terephthalate jars, glass dropper bottles, and PE tubes with cannula-based systems for repairing and soothing creams.
