We provide UVA Protection Factor (UVA-PF) testing to support accurate and compliant labeling of sun care and cosmetic products. UVA-PF testing is an essential step for verifying a product’s ability to protect the skin against UVA radiation, which is known to cause photoaging, long-term skin damage, and contribute to skin cancer. Unlike UVB rays, UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the skin and are present throughout the year, regardless of weather or season. Measuring UVA protection is a necessary part of substantiating broad-spectrum protection claims in many global markets.

Our Available UVA-PF Test Methods

We offer multiple testing methods depending on your regulatory or development needs:

  • In-house method (in vitro)

  • ISO 24443:2021 – An internationally recognized in vitro method for determining UVA protection in sunscreen products. This test is accepted by regulatory bodies in the EU and other global markets as a requirement for broad-spectrum labeling.

  • JCIA PA Rating Tests – Used widely in Japan and many Asian countries, the PA system rates UVA protection using Persistent Pigment Darkening (PPD) data. We offer all four PA levels:

    PA+ Test
    PA++ Test
    PA+++ Test
    PA++++ Test

These tests are conducted according to the Japan Cosmetic Industry Association (JCIA) guidelines and are commonly used for product registration and consumer labeling in Asian markets.

Why UVA Testing is Necessary

Consumers and regulators increasingly expect transparent and science-based labeling. For sunscreen products to be marketed with UVA protection claims or broad-spectrum labels, laboratory testing is required to demonstrate effectiveness. UVA-PF results are also used to support marketing claims, comply with national regulations, and select the appropriate PA rating for packaging.

Failing to verify UVA protection can lead to misleading claims, reduced consumer trust, and potential regulatory action. Our testing services help mitigate those risks by providing objective, scientifically grounded data.
