Dit fenomeen, bekend als greenwashing, houdt in dat consumenten worden misleid over de milieuvoordelen van een product. Inzicht in greenwashing is essentieel voor consumenten die weloverwogen keuzes willen maken. Er is sprake van greenwashing als bedrijven hun inspanningen om het milieu te beschermen overdrijven of vervalsen. Een cosmeticamerk kan bijvoorbeeld \u00e9\u00e9n duurzaam ingredi\u00ebnt benadrukken en andere schadelijke aspecten van zijn producten negeren. Deze tactiek kan consumenten in verwarring brengen en hen laten geloven dat ze milieuvriendelijke merken steunen. Bovendien ondermijnt greenwashing de inspanningen van echte milieuvriendelijke bedrijven, waardoor hun inzet voor duurzaamheid verwatert. Laten we ter illustratie eens kijken naar een hypothetisch merk dat zijn gezichtscr\u00e8me als &#8220;groen&#8221; op de markt brengt. Een merk dat zich inzet voor duurzaamheid moet consequent milieubewuste waarden uitstralen in het productassortiment en de bedrijfspraktijken. Verder is het belangrijk om op je hoede te zijn voor vage termen.
